It’s been a while since our June 1st, 2013 Duncannon Appalachian Trail Community Festival so we’re refreshing your memory with some of Dan Innamorato’s candid images from the event.  Dan was kind enough to share his great pictures of the 2nd annual DATC Festival with us so be sure to check his photos to see if you or your friends are in them or just take a look around Duncannon and spot other people showing their community spirit.

October 13th Haldeman Island Hike

The Duncannon Appalachian Trail Community (DATC) and the Duncannon Outdoor Club (DOC) will be hosting another hike on Haldeman Island this year on Sunday October 13th from 9:00AM to 12:30PM.  We have openings for 10 to 30 guests.  First priority will be given to those who attended the June 1st hike yet had to leave before our hike leader could give them the grand tour.  Contact haldeman-hike@duncannonatc.org to signup for this rare opportunity

Trail Maintenace with the SATC

I had a fun day out in the woods with the Susquehanna Appalachian Trail Club in the Stony Creek valley.  We spent the day planting 1,100 three year old White Pine seedlings, doing rock work and clearing blow-downs.

The White Pine seedlings are needed to help replace the beautiful Hemlock groves which will all eventually be destroyed by the invasive Woolly Adelgid.  There is no known mitigation technique to keep this foreign pest from spreading and eventually devastating every Hemlock in the northeast region Continue reading

Duncannon Outdoor Club (DOC)

The next DOC event is on Sat., May18th. We will be hiking from Scott’s Farm to Sherwood Drive and back. It is an average paced 2 mile hike to look for Mayapples, Violets and Jack in the Pulpits over easy terrain. Bring water and a snack. Meet at the Duncannon Family Health Center at 9:00 am. to carpool. Call 834-9216 or email dtakach@duncannonatc.org to register.
