The Duncannon Appalachian Trail Community mission statement is “Promoting, Protecting and Preserving Our Outdoor Recreational Resources for Future Generations.”
We support and implement projects and programming that enhance tourism opportunities for Duncannon and the surrounding areas as an outdoor recreation destination and encourage everyone to get outside, enjoy nature and recognize the connection between the health and abundance of the region’s natural assets and the vitality of its communities.
We support the efforts of the Trail Clubs maintaining the A.T. in the Greater Duncannon Area including MCM (Mountain Club of Maryland), SATC (Susquehanna Appalachian Trail Club), CVATC (Cumberland Valley Appalachian Trail Club), and YHC (York Hiking Club).
As part of the 2012 DATC Designation Festival a mural is in place on the wall by the 11/15 bridge at the south end of town.
The historic river town of Duncannon, situated at the junction of the Susquehanna River, Juniata River and the Kittatinny Ridge “Flyway,” is treasured by thousands of through-hikers, section-hikers, day-hikers and river enthusiasts in Perry County, PA. One of only a handful of small towns through which the Appalachian Trail directly passes, Duncannon is well-known for its views from Hawk Rock as well as the friendliness, hospitality and generosity of local residents.
The legendary Doyle Hotel on Market Street is a welcome respite to hikers and paddlers, offering food, drink and a place to rest before continuing on their journey. Duncannon is also the home of several great restaurants and unique small businesses who welcome you to the town. Local Boy Scouts provide maps at the Borough entrance of local attractions and hiker services to help orient and welcome visitors to town.
